It is from L'Abbe Barthelemy's Voyage du Jeune Anacharsis en Grece, published in Paris by Chez Etienne Ledoux, 1822. A copy of the title page is included. Anacharsis was a Scythian sage who traveled to Greece around 566 BC, there he studied with Plutarch, eventually becoming a Greek citizen and had a profound influence on Greek Cynicism. The map is designed and engraved by Ambroise Tardieu, whose name appears in the title area of the map. It is not mounted nor matted, being sold as a single sheet as seen in the first pic. Overall, A Beautiful Map that will frame up nicely. Size: The map image area measures approximately 5 3/4 by 8 1/2 inches (14x22cm)on a 8 by 10 1/2" (21x28cm) page with a margin all around. Condition: The map is in Very Good or better condition for its age, printed on a bright heavy page, blank on the reverse, with original handcoloring. Other than a couple of very minor spots on the edge of the margin, it is very clean with bright original color that would frame up nicely. See the pics for more details.
