Description: 1898 MERIDEN B COMPANY. ROGERS BROS. LATE VICTORIAN EARLY NOUVEAU GRAPE & VINE BUTTER DOME W/ (CERAMIC) INSERT The Meriden Britannia Company was established in Meriden, Connecticut in 1852 . As its name suggests, its primary focus, at least for a time, was the production of wares made of Britannia metal. However, the firm was also a purveyor of sterling silver and silver-plated wares of exceptional quality. The initial and monumental success of Meriden Britannia Company can be attributed to the quality of its products and the intensity of its marketing campaigns. After two decades of existence, and significant expansion over that reasonably short period, the Meriden Britannia Company won first place at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia for its silver-plated wares. Some eight million potential customers frequented that exposition, and Meriden Britannia took full advantage of this unique opportunity. Due to this and other efforts, by the end of the 1870s, it had garnered a significant reputation. Outstanding piece in excellent conditions, showing no dents, monogram, cuts or major scratching , minor cosmetic details (blemishes ) as pictured , overall substantial bright plating with glossy finish, perfectly clean inside /unused holding the original gold wash, and ceramic insert in perfect condition as well 6 1/4" by 61/4", 7 1/4 handle to handle, 2.0 lbs weight before packing
