Description: Lend me your ears for this 1900s Blue Opalescent Northwood/Dugan Corn Vase! Something special and unique, this vase was produced from 1902 through 1913. This Corn Vase is a beautiful turquoise blue opalescent glass, a true testament to the skill of the craftsman who produced it. In mint condition, the vase glows brightly under ultraviolet (black) light. Originally manufactured by The Northwood Works of Indiana, PA, which was part of the National Glass Company, the pattern was continued by the Dugan Glass Company until a 1913 fire closed the factory. What makes this gorgeous piece of early American glassware a Dugan instead of an L. G. Wright? The difference between the two is the Wright vase has a flat top, while the older Dugan has a pulled top that forms a "U" shape from the side view (photo #6). This opening is commonly referred to as a fish mouthed shaped opening. Measuring 8" tall by 7.5" in circumference at the handles which are corn husks, the vase colors are variegated, being lighter at the top like real corn. You can always appreciate the corn vase from a different angle -- the corny one! So, "Tell me corny jokes! I'm all ears!" and "The corn farmer doesn’t like to make plans—he prefers to play everything by ear." Celebrate the farmer and all the glorious food he has brought to the table. Corn is an American staple food. Whatever happens, just keep it corny! You’re a-maize-ing! Note: the picture in photo #1 is not for sale. Nobody eats just one ear of corn, so who would settle for just one vase! TinsBoutique has a second matching vase, so if you can use two vases, please let us know.
