1901 Yokohama Rare SIGNED Diplomat MUELLER–BEECK Postcard

Description: 1901 Yokohama Rare SIGNED Diplomat MUELLER–BEECK Postcard The sender of this postcard, Fernando George Mueller-Beeck (1854–1928), was a German diplomat to Japan in the late 19th century, serving in Nagasaki and Yokohama. This postcard shows an acceptance stamp from Nagasaki with a January 28, 1901, Yokohama postmark, addressed to Berlin, Germany. While I'm unable to read the card written in German, I can make out words such as 'China's Kings 1840,' 'Goethe, Bielschowsky' and 'Napoleon.' This leads me to believe that Mueller-Beeck was likely writing about books though that's just my guess. Fernando George Mueller-Beeck came to Japan in 1879 and was employed on May 22, 1879 at the consulate of Yokohama as a consulate secretary. On November 12, 1884 he was appointed to the Foreign Service, consular career, as a consulate-aspirant in the Consulate of Yokohama (from 1885 General-Consulate). He worked there from January 26, 1885 until January 9, 1889. From January 13, 1889 to March 6, 1906 he took over the position of a consul in Nagasaki. He was the first official consul; until this point the position of German Consul rotated among a number of German merchants in town. In the extensive collection of Bernd Lepach, the collector, writer, and curator of the Meiji-portraits.de site, there are two scarce postcards 'sent' to Mueller-Beeck. However, our piece here is unique, as Mueller-Beeck was the sender. It was addressed, written, and signed by him: 'Mueller-Beeck / R. Konsul,' meaning Honorary Consul. Mueller-Beeck was also a collector of Japanese cultural artifacts, sending 59 items to Dresden between 1886 and 1888. This is a rare card!
