Description: As seen on the label, this piece is graded by NGC as "UNC DETAILS - CLEANED". In my opinion, that is not accurate. If you are familiar with this issue, it normally comes with a red or red brown color and an unfinished, mint-state surface. A normal medal is either copper or bronze. The example for sale here appears to be brass. The surfaces are hairlined, but I believe that was the result of special surface finishing that was originally done by the manufacturer. I believe that, because above the evenly applied surface finishing, is an expertly applied layer of lacquer. This was not an uncommon surface-finishing tactic used by manufacturers and similar finishing is still done quite regularly on medals today.
