Description: 19TH CENTURY ORIGINAL JAPANESE WOODBLOCK, GEISHA & ACTORS, KUNIYOSHI, SIGNED19TH CENTURY ORIGINAL JAPANESE WOODBLOCK, GEISHA & ACTORS, KUNIYOSHI, SIGNED. This listing is for an Antique original woodblock of two Japanese Geisha in a colorful kimono with what looks like a group of actors (really guessing here). Two of the men are wearing masks, one geisha is being helped with her shoes by a third man, while another geisha is kneeling low on the floor near a fourth man. There is another person with their face wearing a blank mask bent over a pot with steam rising from it, etc. The wood block is signed and stamped. This has come from a large collection of woodblocks that I will be listing down the road. I have no working knowledge of the Japanese language and cannot translate the characters on this woodblock. The woodblock itself is approx. 10" by 14 1/4". It is mounted on large card stock paper with mat "frame" and an outer folded cover sleeve. The folder that holds the woodblock measures approx. 13 1/8" by 19 1/8". On the stock paper, below the woodblock, is stamped: "Guaranteed Genuine Old Original T. Sakai, Established 1874 Tokyo", and handwritten beneath this is: "By Kuniyoshi (1797-1861)". The woodblock features crisp images and deep colors, there are some pin holes and larger holes (that have been addressed by the previous owners--see faint paper repairs). The folder is in very good condition. This will be packed and shipped in a rigid box.
