On this beautiful coin, the error played an important role in changing the design motif of the coin. The original coin design depicts a quiet river against the backdrop of hills. But then the picture changed dramatically and a Cascade appeared, from which water flows into the river.This quarter dollar shows accidental die abrasion affecting the area of shallow relief of the hills, the river and behind the letters. Coarse, straight, parallel die scrapes run through the affected area. The damage was most likely inflicted by a mis-timed feeder.
