5 Eastern Redbud Tree Seedlings - Cercis canadensis -Live Plants- 3 to 6 inches

Description: 5 Eastern Redbuds (American Redbud, American Judas Tree) Botanical Name: Cercis canadensis This listing is for five (5) Eastern Redbud tree seedlings that range in size between 3 and 6 inches in height. The trees you will receive will be between these ranges of size as there will be slight differences from the photos in the listing as no two plants are the same. They will be guaranteed vibrant and healthy and ready for transplanting. We do not ship with the pot as the pot allows for too much soil moisture evaporation. It will be securely adhered to the package wall for the safest shipping method possible. PLEASE BE ADVISED: From October to March, we ship these plants in their dormant state. This means they will have no leaves. The stem will be strewn with buds for this coming spring's growth. If you live in a southern state, these will push new growth upon planting them as dormancy is dependent on hours of daylight and temperature. We are located in New York State and temperatures can differ drastically around the country. Please contact us with any questions on dormancy. We do send dormant planting instructions with every order. Scientific Classification Kingdom: Plantae Order: Fabales Family: Fabaceae Genus: Cercis Species: C. canadensis This tree is native to eastern North America, from southern Ontario in Canada to northern Florida in the United States. General Description: A multi-stemmed, early spring flowering ornamental tree with heart shaped leaves. Hardiness Zone: 4 to 8 Maintenance: Very low. They will need to be dead wooded from time to time, and handle trimming very well. Overall, plant and walk away. Mature Height: 20 to 30 feet Mature Width: 25 to 35 feet Plant Details: Growth Habit: Fast growing, multi-trunked understory tree with a rounded crown. They do not have a main leading trunk as they become established. This is a feature that makes this plant a showstopper. They grow in a fashion that cascades in a lovely crown and sings the praises of being beautiful. The growth rate is between 2 to 3 feet a year once established. Leaf Structure: Romantically heart shaped 3 to 5 inches across. They first appear light green tinged with red that mature to a blue green by summer. Autumn color is light yellow to greenish yellow. Stem Structure: Slender, smooth, with irregular branching like they zig then zag. Bark Structure: Red to dark brown, mature bark is scaly with ridges. Soil Preference: Sand, Loam, Peat, Silt Watering Preference: Medium Sunlight Preference: Full Sun to Partial Shade Bloom Time: Early Spring - April. The Eastern Redbud is a spring shower. Up here in New York State we know spring has finally arrived when the Redbuds start to bloom. They flower before they push their heart-shaped leaves. Bloom Color: The pea-like flowers are a vibrant pink purple, which leaves the onlooker in awe at its beauty. Fruit Production: They produce a bean-like pod which contains 5 to 10 small brown seeds. They can be collected in the fall after they have matured. Nut Production: N/A Main Use of Plant: Indoor: This tree can be grown indoors, plant in a pot that offers good drainage, water often, and give it plenty of sunlight. Outdoor: Widely grown as an ornamental tree. Wonderful as a specimen or grown in a shrub border. Winterization Methods: Young trees may need to be wrapped in hardware cloth to prevent rabbits and other small rodents from chewing the bark off the trunk. Otherwise, they do not require much care. Fun Fact: Honeybees go to the flowers for pollen, while butterflies and hummingbirds go to them for the nectar. General Notes: Native Americans consumed redbud flowers raw or boiled and also ate the roasted seeds. We grow everything organically with a beneficial insect program. We do not use chemical fertilizers, pesticides or fungicides. We use a preventive program for pests with the use of Ladybugs, Green Lacewings, Praying Mantis, and Predatory Mites to battle soft bodied bugs and Nematodes in the soil to combat any soil dwelling pests. Our dedication to safe and harmless plants is seen throughout all our products. We are all stewards to Planet Earth, and we must protect it. Soil pH level guide: Acid to Neutral to Alkaline. Acidic soil has a pH of 1 to 6.5. Neutral soil has a pH of 6.6 to 7.3. Alkaline soil has a pH of 7.4 to 14.
