Large "settler" statue, from the Tagbana ethnic group, from Ivory Coast.The Tagbana constitute a small ethnic group, located between the Baoulé (to the south) and the Senoufo (to the north).Their statuary invariably presents an archaic style. The pieces are few in number, and difficult to reach the circle of African art dealers.Representation of a religious person, wearing traditional attire. The piece is carved from extremely dense wood.Remarkable facial expression, marked by great naivety, close to amazement.Unusual piece, link between ancestral beliefs and external religions.Ancient tribal statue.Painted statuettes cover a wide variety of areas in Africa.
