Description: This vintage sculpture of a crouching Venus or Aphrodite is a Museum Replica by Alva Studios, copied from the original in the Art Institute of Chicago according to what I could make out on the well worn paper label on the bottom. From what I can tell, these replicas were designed by Alva Studios, operated by Alfred Wolkenberg, and produced by Museum Replicas, Inc, New York. I may be mistaken, so will leave it up to you to make your own investigation and decision prior to bidding, as I could not find an identical one through searches. The lower back of the scupture has ALVA STUDIOS with the copyright symbol, and there is an incized artist mark or artist signature intitials on the side of the sculpture base on one side. I'm not sure of the sculpture material, but it's not heavy enough at 2 1/4 pounds to be bronze, but it's possible that it's a ceramic or resin with a bronze-like coating, and then a white spray finish over that. It measues approximately 9 1/4 inches tall, with a wood basee measuring 3 3/4 inches x 2 1/2 inches. There are wear spots and small paint chips to the sculpture finish and the wood base.
