This antique Edwardian stick pin features a gorgeous saphiret glass stone. The oval cabochon is frosted, as they were during the Victorian period, and bezel-set into a gold-colored setting with dark striations. Includes a clutch for the end of the pin. Saphiret glass was made in Gablonz, Bohemia beginning in the mid-1800s. It was made by mixing gold into sapphire blue glass and resulted in glass that looked brick red to brown but reflected blue. Shortly after the beginning of the 1900s, saphiret was no longer produced because of the increase of gold. Today, true saphiret glass is highly coveted. Condition: Excellent--I see no issues.
