Description: Baseball for Everybody: Tom Glavine's Guide to America's Game (1999) Editorial Reviews Book Description On the heels of one of the strongest baseball seasons ever, Atlanta Braves World Series MVP and Cy Young award winning pitcher Tom Glavine delivers an insiders' view of baseball's enduring magic and mystique. Review: TOM TERRIFIC 2 (TOO) !!! I remember watching Tom Seaver of the Amazing Mets and wishing that one day the Braves would have their own great team and great team pitching. We HAD one super star but he had to pitch on some bad Atlanta Braves teams and always had to pitch against the opposing team's ace. And still he won over 300 games . . . That was the great knuckle baller Phil Niekro. And that was the 1970s. Enter the 1990s and suddenly we had the great pitching TEAM previously seen on Mets and Dodgers teams. Three and four Ace teams. And in my mind ESPECIALLY the gritty Tom Glavine. I always said, as good as that staff was, in a one game means everything situation, I'd rather have Glavine on the mound than ANYONE. He would just bear down and deny you a run. That could be said of Maddux, Smoltz, and Avery or Neagle as well. But if the money were on the line . . . and it was in game six of the 1995 WORLD SERIES, my money is on Thomas Glavine. He proved me right too. Cleveland had a super offensive team. They got zip! Nothing. A goose egg. And Atlanta got it's only professional Championship still to date. Thanks and way to go Tom. No brainer Hall Of Fame stuff!
