DESCRIPTION Bob James - “Four” CTI Records CTI 7074 (Stereo) from 1977. Hard to find Original U.S. First Pressing Jazz / Funk / Fusion album from Bob James with Hubert Laws, Eric Gale, Art Farmer, Gary King and Steve Gadd plus Ralph MacDonald, Eddie Daniels, Romeo Penque, John Frosk, John Gatchell and more. Recorded by Rudy Van Gelder at Van Gelder Studios. Several of the songs on this album have been heavily Sampled by Artists such as Common, Arrested Development, G-Unit, Grand Puba, DJ Spooky, Doseone, Masta Ace and a bunch more. In the Original Gatefold Cover with no Cutouts, Promo markings or Barcode. Includes the Original Printed CTI Inner Sleeve. This is a Terre Haute First Pressing as indicated by the Matrix / Runout Vinyl markings which read: Matrix / Runout (Runout Both Sides, Stamped): "VAN GELDER” Matrix / Runout (A-side Runout, Etched): T1 RVG 87735-A-6 : CTH VAN GELDER 2AMatrix / Runout (B-side Runout, Etched): T1 RVG 87735-B-2 : CTH VAN GELDER C3 CONDITION The Sleeve is in good shape. There is some fairly slight shelf wear and corner softening / wear. There are little spots inside the gatefold where it looks like the two sides got stuck together and pulled apart leaving two 1/2” peels. Super solid with no cutouts, writing, splits, stains, tears, etc. and would rate at least VG. The Vinyl is in clean Glossy condition looking lightly played. If you look closely you can spot a few light scuffs and hairlines - no actual scratches i.e. something felt with a fingernail. VG+ visually and plays pretty much perfectly with the exception of a handful of soft tics at the start of side two. The labels show some light spindle trails and a little splotch of something that looks like glue on the side one label but are otherwise Near Mint. If I provide Play Grades it is done as a courtesy but I only guarantee the Visual Grade. If you are not familiar with this grading system (or even if you think you are!), please check it out before bidding. I have summarized the important (i.e. I think everyone knows what Mint means) points below in Goldmine's words: Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK. Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing,... Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound. I stand by my grades but would like us to be on the same page so no problems arise. I have been selling Vintage Vinyl for over twenty years on the net and I can count the returns I've had on one hand so I believe my grading is fair and accurate. One important note, I try to grade to these Goldmine guides as best as I can understand and apply them. This gives us both a written standard to go by rather than having to guess. But.... it also means that I don't issue refunds over differences of opinion in grading i.e. "That's not MY idea of a VG record!" - I don't know what your standards are and, as such, can't grade to them.
