Original ribbon is on older brass suspension. Medal has been worn but is in excellent condition. Obverse shows a soldier with a bayonet and red flag with inscription "For Socialist Motherland". Award was issued December 13, 1950 – April 5, 1991 to Bulgarian and Allied military personnel for distinction in battle or for merit in the strengthening of power and structure of the Bulgarian People's Army. Designed by P. Doychinov and O. Odabashja, there are two variations of this award, the first emission (edition) which is numbered; later issues (2nd emission) were unnumbered. This 1st emission is likely from the 1950-59 period.
