Recent gift inscription dated 1992.PAGES: 507.Family History / genealogy: Name Gustavus Adolphus CREASY Birth17 Dec 1840 Death18 Feb 1915, Pittsylvania Co, VA23 FatherGeorge CREASY (-1886) MotherEmily Malinda ARTHUR (-1861) Misc. Notes He was a prominent citizen of Mt Airy, VA:Pittsylvania. Gus bought the house which was then known as "Fruitland" and 500 acres of land from Joshua Hubbard of Halifax. Dr Clopton (presumably A W Clopton) owned the original six-room house around the turn of the 18th century. The man who built the house seems to have faded into obscurity. One clue -- the wording on a flat grave stone in the stone-walled cemetery beside the mansion, points to two of Pittsylvania's oldest families: "E A White, consort of H White, departed october 1827, at the age of 35. Erected by her brothers, S B and M H Garland". On the opposite side of the cemetery is a similar stone, also laid flat on the ground, but less ornate, and unmarked. An upright stone in the same cemetery marks the grave of Gustavus B Moon, born in 1861, died March 11, 1889. He was the favorite nephew of Gus Creasy and beside this handsome stone is the grave of Creasy's daughter, Bertha, who died of diptheria in early childhood.23 Gus was a Confederate soldier in the 5th Regiment, Pickett's Division. He was a corporal at the time. He was shot in the head at Drewy's Bluff with a minnie ball and wounded three times in the same battle. Spouses 1Sallie Claiborne TUCKER Birth11 Jun 1851 Misc.
