Brother of another popular Viennese artist Ernst Lafite, he was pupil of E.v.Lichtenfels and F.Steinfeld at the Vienna Academy. He was also an art teacher in several families of the Austrian high society. In 1850s/1860s he exhibited in "Oesterreichischer Kuenstlerverein", later participated in all annual exhibitions in "Wiener Kuenstlerhaus".
