Description: A challenge to education II-B : technical essays : thirteen essays presented at the Second Creation Convention, Red Carpet Inn, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, August 18-21, 1974 / edited by Walter Lang. -- Caldwell, Idaho : Bible-Science Association, c1974. 156 pages : illustrations, maps ; 22 cm. The essays presented at the second Creation Convention, held at the Red Carpet Inn, Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Aug. 18-21, 1974) are being published in two volumes. This volume contains the technical essays and is designated as Volume (B). We are continuing the title used for the compilation of essays presented at the first Creation Convention, also held in Milwaukee, in October of 1972. This title was A Challenge to Education. These volumes will be titled A Challenge to Education (B) for the technical essays. Our first book of 17 essays published in 1972, still available from the office of Bible-Science Association. Through these technical essays we hope to encourage research based on the creationist concept of origins. Writing in a recent issue of Origins magazine, Leonard R. Brand, a biologist, states that Christian students will not only need to revise much of what they learn, but must sometimes totally change it. This will require courage, determination, persistence, and independent thinking and research. He makes the statement that "the widely accepted concept of the complete objectivity of the individual scientist is naive - an unfortunate twentieth-century myth." It is not the objectivity that is so important; it is determination, hard work, and the assurance that we are building on a sure foundation, the Bible. In many areas old ideas are being discarded. No longer is it claimed that matter and energy are separate entitles. The geologic column is under attack. The theory of relativity is being questioned. Radioactive dating systems are being assailed as is the entire concept of astrophysics. At a time when drastic changes are occurring in scientific concepts creation research can be most helpful. We believe the essays in this volume will inspire such research. Professors at our universities who accept the creationist position have difficulty in convincing their colleagues of the value of this position, but students are eager for knowledge and are willing to learn. These students need encouragement to devote their lives to research in their chosen field and to base this research on the concept of the creation view of origins. It is our hope that these essays will inspire graduate and undergraduate students to continue the work begun as outlined in these essays. Several generations have been brought up to regard nature as being neutral or amoral, and therefore, we have a problem in Bible-Science relationships This concept is contrary to Romans 8:18-23, and also contrary to Colossians 1:20 that Christ reconciles all "things." The scientists authoring these essays exhibit appreciation for morality, and some of them have a deep insight into theology. We hope that these essays will also lead to an appreciation of the concept that Scripture and Science need to be joined in order for science to produce its greatest blessings.
