Description: Child's High Chair Antique Early to Mid 19th Century Slat-Back With Rush Seat This early to mid 19th century American country primitive slat-back high chair is crafted from oak and other woods, with a woven rush seat. This chair is minimally decorated with rabbit ear stiles and 5 simple rings turned just below seat level on both front legs. From the condition of the chair's arms and footrest, it most likely was used by subsequent children in a large family, or it was passed down generation to generation. From the two wood plugs inserted into the front legs above the footrest, it appears the footrest, which is supported by pegs that are typical of the period, was lowered to accommodate a particular growing child. This adds to the charm and interest of this piece. Because of its age and construction and for health and safety concerns, this high chair is offered for collecting or decor only, not for use by a child.
