Description: US Civil War Model 1840 NCO Marines Sword with Leather Scabbard. The ricasso is marked "Horstmanns" over "Phila". The brass guard and grip are tight. The knuckle guard and back clamshell have a smudge of white paint on each. The blade is straight, unsharpened, a few minor nicks on the lower half towards the tip, and there are age spots with a little surface rust scattered throughout. The leather scabbard is solid but broken in two pieces (one tiny piece missing on the back at the break = 1/4" x 1/4"), the stitching is tight, leather loss spots, crazing throughout, and the throat piece slides down a little but not off. Washer is intact. Length of the blade is 32 1/8" (7/8" wide and 1/4" thick), the sword is 38 1/4", and in the scabbard it is 39 3/16". Check out my other War items!!
