Description: Offered here is the complete 88 card set of the acclaimed [and somewhat controversial] Civil War News, produced by Topps in 1962. This lot includes the complete set of 88 cards and an extra #88 (checklist). This controversial 1962 set from Topps presented a sensationalized account of the tragic four-year conflict. The dynamic artwork by Norman Saunders emphasized extreme violence - with imagery so gratuitous that it prompted pushback from concerned parents at the time. The cards depict several of the most well-known battles along with a dramatic title, the name of the conflict, and the corresponding date. On the reverse side, there is a brief description framed as a newspaper article. These cards would grade from very good to near mint, with the following issues: both Checklists have lines darkening out card boxes, couple have minor corner wear, some typical centering variations, a few soil spots. A truly excellent set ! All cards have been scanned.
