Description: HELLO, AND THANK YOU FOR LOOKING!! Up for sale is a custom painted HO scale WalthersProto Amtrak Hi-level Coach 39940 in phase IV livery. The car has been highly customized including a fully detailed interior with passengers, extra LED lighting on the lower level, and exterior paneling for the Amtrak stripe decorations on the car sides. Santa Fe transferred all passenger equipment to Amtrak back in the 1970’s, at Amtrak’s creation. Amtrak slowly phased out these hi-level cars over the years in favor of the newer superliners. But five of these coaches remained in Amtrak service into the 2000’s, much like the 5 Pacific Parlour cars. These former Santa Fe hi-level coaches were modernized with HEP and shorter diaphragms, and newer rated emergency escape windows on the lower level for service in the early 2000’s on the Heartland Flyer line, and they could be spotted occasionally on other routes. Walthers released these cars in Santa Fe livery, but never made the updates to the molds to make these more modern versions. Intermountain released a version of these, but like Walthers they just painted the Amtrak blue stripe over the fluting and Santa Fe herald boards. In addition to adding custom paneling for the Amtrak stripe like the real ones, I have also added several details to make these cars really pop. The interior has been completely painted and decorated. The walls and snack tables feature woodgrain paneling. The seats have been painted in their respective colors and 72 antimacassars have been painstakingly applied. There are several passengers enjoying the ride, including a conductor on the top level checking tickets. A Walthers standard Hi-level lighting kit has been added, which works on DC and DCC, but is not decoder controlled. They did not make provisions to light the lower floor, so I have added several cool white LEDs to light up the several compartments below. Some of the compartments below feature famous Amtrak equipment paintings on the walls. Modifications to the ends include shortening the diaphragms and adding chrome paneling to cover the gaps. I have also added marker light boxes with red tinted lenses (non-working). Scale MU connectors and HEP cables are in their correct colors on both ends as well. The large windows on the lower sides are custom made by cutting out the old small windows and creating new window frames. This car has taken more work than the Pacific Parlour cars I have made. All grab irons installed. Walthers recommends a minimum of 22-24 inch radius curves. All original paperwork included. Unique passenger car, sure to turn heads anywhere. Any questions, please ask. Thanks!
