Damageplan Item autographed by all four members - See Full Description

Description: This eBay store is completely closing 12/01/24 This is a one of a kind Damageplan piece from the day I met Dimebag Darrell Abbott as well as his murderer Nathan Gale. It was signed by all four members of Damageplan on April 8th, 2004. I was working as a stagehand and security at Bogart's in Cincinnati, Ohio for the Damageplan show. Early in the day after load in and before soundcheck I was excited to meet Darrell and Vinnie Abbott. I met Vinnie and introduced myself to Dime and told him I was a Pantera fan, a big fan of his playing and had seen them a few times over the years. He was very gracious, funny and down to earth. Former Pantera roadie and then current Damageplan roadie The Katt kept looking at me sideways like he was wanting to fight me or something. He came up rather confrontational and started questioning me (What's your name? Where are you from? How old are you? Are you a musician? What do you play? Etc...) Come to find out he was certain that I was Ivan the drummer from White Zombie during the La Sexorcisto era. Being that I really am a drummer he wasn't very convinced that I wasn't this guy. Apparently Ivan majorly wronged a sister or cousin of Katts or something and he was out for blood. Darrell saw all this and chimed in on my behalf knowing it was mistaken identity. He wasn't really convinced but he left it at that. Fast forward to set change just before Damageplan took the stage. There was a gap in the barricade stage left and right so when crowd surfers come over the barricade we could catch them and get them back onto the floor into the crowd again. I was working the stage left gap, we had a guy in the center and one stage right. A big 6'3" 250lb guy with glasses came up to me and asked if this was the side Dime plays on. I told him yeah and he posted up just to the side of the gap. From the start of the first song the crowd was wild and crowd surfers were pouring over the barricade keeping us busy. Early into the second song I caught a fan coming over the barricade and was walking them to the gap to get back into the crowd. As we approached the gap I saw a flash of the side of a big white sneaker going onstage and I reached up and gave it a hard open hand slap. I guess he has mid stride and immediately spun around looking at me. It was the guy that asked which side Dime was on. One of their road crew ran up and grabbed him from behind but couldn't control that guy. They quickly reeled backed behind the big guitar rig out of sight and more guys ran back there. The band never stopped and my head of security and another one of our guys ran past and said stay here. They jumped up on stage just as two or three of their guys came back around on the opposite side(stage right) hanging off that guy beating on him trying to subdue him. Once our two guys got to him they wrestled him backstage behind the equipment line and out of sight. All this went down while the band played on and the audience was witness to it. He was ejected out the back door into the alley. He managed to do $1200 damage to some equipment during that fight behind the guitar rigs. Not long after that our light guy Patrick was walking backstage and heard a knock on the door from the alley. He peeked out and that guy was saying I just got booted out but I lost my glasses in there. Patrick was quick thinking knowing that equipment was damaged and told him give me your ID so I can photocopy it. If and when we find your glasses we can mail them to you. The guy fell for it! They called the cops and made a report but the band never pressed charges. That man was Nathan Gale who would rush Damageplan's stage during a performance 8 months later and kill Dimebag Darrell Abbott as well as their head of security Jeffrey Thompson. As you probably know a cop with a shotgun had to blow Gale away. Strange thing is we may have taken a knife from him at the door. Fans were subject to pat downs and searches and weapons and/or drugs that were found were confiscated and then they were allowed entry but who had what was never recorded. The rest of the show went on without a hitch. I got to watch Dime play right in front of me all night and it was a beautiful thing. In between songs he held up a drink to the crowd and took it down. He then kind of motioned to me hey you want one and I was telling him bring it on. As the entire place watched he carefully set the cup on his headstock and lowered it down to me. I put my hands behind my back, took the cup in my teeth and sucked it back as a no hander. The crowd roared, it was hilarious. They were drinking red bull with jager and Similac baby water. They said the Similac has nutrients and helps them not get too dehydrated and hungover. After the show Dime motioned to me and said come on stick with me. We went up to where the meet and greet table sponsored by FYE was and he had me stand off to the side while maybe a dozen fans got autographs and photos. Then I walked as the last fan to shake their hands and thank them. Darrell said "This is the last night of the FYE sponsorship and I want you to have this." It was the blue FYE table skirt. He got the band and a couple of their road crew to sign it and presented it to me. We hung out and partied up there for probably 20 minutes joking and having a good time. I snapped a photo of he and I, thanked him and we parted ways. I included the photo here in the listing but it is just for reference, not included with this sale.
