The unit has long lasting rechargeable Ni-MH batteries and a tri-color LED Battery Life Indicator. This unit may need new batteries as I have never used it. I bought it to train 2 rescue dogs but decided I needed dual Dogtra collars as it was too difficult to juggle two remotes.
