Description: Made in England..This is an early '4.5-point' blanket with a red label. The point system was invented by French weavers in the mid-18th century as a means of indicating the finished overall size of a blanket. Points were identified by the indigo lines woven into the side of each blanket. A full point (4 to 5.5 inches), which this one does. The indigo lines are present, on a rarer gray color, but unfortunately half of the blanket has been cut away so the measurements are 42 x 70 inches. The blanket is in excellent condition with no fraying on cut / torn end. The wool is, and always has been, a blend of varieties from Britain and New Zealand, each selected for special qualities that make the blanket water resistant, soft, warm and strong. The wool is first dyed before it is spun and then air and sun dried to brighten the colors. The blankets are woven 50% larger than their final finished size, before they are put through a milling process, which reduces them to prevent further shrinkage. In addition, the milling prevents the blanket from hardening when exposed to severe climatic conditions.Photos are part of the description, please ask questions. Will combine shipping.
