Description: EXTREMELY RARE: Ludar : The Last Concert (CD The Jan Turner Gallery 1995) LATIN FOLK Everyone who has ever loved Ludar's music will tell you that no recording has ever been able to capture the magic of seeing him in the flesh. The ebulliant warmth, playful asides and hilarious "takes" charmed audiences across the continents. I, for one, have never seen a performer be able to charm the socks off the most jaded, I've-seen-it-all urban sophisticates while simultaneously causing the bus boys and servers to put down their loads and stomp and holler in jubilant appreciation. The SRO crowds that packed Ludar's concerts repeatedly left with jaw muscles aching from two hours of continuous smiling, old friends warmed by familiar favorites and new fans captivated by this charismatic man and his extraordinarily poignant and eclectic repretoire. As an audience member told me, "He always makes me feel like he's singing to me, his messages are the ones I'm supposed to hear." Neither the hundreds of fans who crammed the gallery that night, nor any of his scores of loved ones could have predicted that February 24th would indeed be the last time we'd bask in the warmth of this extraordinary man and his unforgettable music Ludar left us suddenly and unexpectedly on May 12, 1995, shortly after returning from his native Chile, leaving hundreds of friends and thousands of fans in stunned disbelief. He possessed more life force than a dozen men and few could even entertain the idea of his departure. The closing number of this last concert (fortuitously preserved by Ludar's gifted accompaniest and producer, guitarist Ted Owens) was our final valentine from our beloved friend, Irving Berlin's classic, "Cheek to Cheek". After thunderous clamors for repeated encores, Ludar put down his guitar, slipped gracefully into the audience, mike in hand, and calmed us. "Heaven, I'm in heaven....." he called out, the microphone held out for our answer. The thunder of three hundred voices called back to him in joyous response "And my heart beats so that I can hardly speeeeaaak..." Yes, you are there now, my friend, and the angels, too, can't stop smiling VTG OOP HTF VINTAGE, OUT OF PRINT, HARD TO FIND
