HYALITE Chalk Mountain, Spruce Pine, Mitchell County, North Carolina One side features very pale green, almost white, hyalite opal that fluoresces a brilliant green under short wave (SW) ultraviolet (UV) light. The matrix is pegmatite. Collected in the 1960s. Measures about 3.5 X 2.5 inches. Fluorescent minerals were photographed using an 8 watt shortwave ultraviolet lamp with time exposure.
