Page edges, covers and corners have moderate shelf wear, staining, foxing, scuffing, abrasions, fraying at edges and aging. No DJ. Good copy. The First American Edition, First Printing consisted of a run of 4165 copies. However (due to a printer error) the words "First American Edition" were omitted from 3377 of these copies and so they were slated for discard/disposal. This left 788 copies as correctly stated First American Editions. Of the discard copies, it would seem some of them were salvaged and continue in circulation today. It is possible the copy offered here fits that description as it dates to 1943, was printed in the U.S., lacks the words "First American Edition" and also lacks any printer code on the verso which would indicate a subsequent printing.
