Purchased from the artist by a neighbor and family friend in the 1960s.ARTHUR R HERRICK - LISTED ARTIST New England landscape impressionist Arthur R. Herrick (1897-1970). Arthur R. Herrick Sr. was born in 1897 in Arlington, Massachusetts. Mr. Herrick graduated from the New England School of Design in Boston (now the Vesper George School) and worked as a freelance illustrator but his real passion was painting New England landscapes. He started his career under the tutelage renowned New England artists Vesper George, A. T. Hubbard and Anthony Thieme, who were his teachers and also his friends. Like his contemporaries, Gloucester, Rockport and scenic points along the North Shore of Massachusetts as well as New Hampshire's mountainous landscapes figured large in his repertoire. Arthur Herrick was active in the Copley Society of Boston, the Connecticut Academy of Arts and the North Shore Art Association Herrick exhibited his paintings at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, Connecticut and the Vose Galleries in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1963, Arthur Herrick moved from Arlington, Massachusetts to Westmoreland, New Hampshire where he captured the area's natural beauty and the human landscape… barns, bridges and villages, expressing his love of New England. His paintings are in collections across the United States. Arthur R. Herrick Sr. passed away in Westmoreland, New Hampshire in 1970.
