ABOUT THE RECORDIn music the normal use of the word baroque has come to cover everything composed between the time Monteverdi to about the middle of the 18th century, when the elder Bach died. In this period the search for new forms sped the development of the opera in the theater, the cantana and oratorio in the church, the suite and the concerto grosso in the concert chamber.String music developed also in response to the incredible degree of craftsmanship attained by such masters as Stradivari and Guarneri: keyboard flourished together with the art of organ and harpsichord builders. It was a period in which music was by far the most exciting of all the arts. Composers composed, listeners listened, and rival enlightened despots of a hundred ducal courts out did each other in their efforts to sign up and hang on to outstanding talent. From this fertile period GO FOR BAROQUE! is a broad sampling, which includes the following works: Handel's Largo, Pachelbel's canon, the Well-Tempered Clavier, and Vivaldi's Four Seasons among others.Portions of our "About the Record" section are taken from information gathered from Wikipedia and AllMusic.
