This is a rare find. Many collectors must search years for a copy of Lloyd E. Wagaman’s “Bible“ on Indiana Trade Tokens, published in 1981 by IKO-TAMS (Indiana-Kentucky-Ohio Token and Medal Society). The late Lloyd Wagaman spent thousands of hours combing through newspapers, city directories, business directories and other resources going back to the 1800s to attribute the thousands of tokens in this 302 page catalog. Long out of print, the first (and still only) printed reference devoted to Indiana tokens contains a catalog of known trade/merchant tokens issued by Indiana businesses and other organizations, organized alphabetically by city/town. In addition to the exact inscription on each token and the name of the city/town, Wagaman identifies the: (1) county of the city/town; (2) composition, including bi-metal tokens (aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, fiber, lead, plastic/celluloid/hard rubber or similar substances, steel, silver, white metal/nickel or zinc), (3) color (gray, white, black, cream, gold, green, maroon, brown, orange, pink, red, blue, Violet, white and yellow); (4) size (in millimeters); (5) shape (triangle, square, hexagon, octagon, bell, round, horseshoe, heart, oblong, oval, scalloped (including number of scallops) and odd shapes that are described separately); and (6) rarity (on a 10 point scale). The reference also has a separate “Maverick“ index for tokens that do not have the name of the town included in the inscription. The book creates its own numbering system for Indiana tokens, but also cross references the Atwood, Feisal, F & C, Pollack and Edkins numbering systems when applicable.
