Description: This is a vintage (1970's or earlier) cast iron paper weight (文鎮 bunchin) for use in traditional Japanese brush calligraphy. This bunchin is decorated with shapes of old Japanese Coins in raised relief. The underside has an abstract vine design. In excellent vintage condition. One can see a few tiny spots of rust. (These can easily be removed but I'll let the buyer decide if they want to do that.) Please see the photos. I know that my father-in-law used this weight when he was doing brush calligraphy in the 1970s. I don't know if it was new or used when he acquired it.This bunchin weighs about 6.8 ounces. (It feels quite hefty for its size.) When writing with brush and ink the writer uses this heavy flat weight to hold the paper on the top of the page. It measures about 8 inches long by just under 3/4 of an inch wide; and it is about 1/4 of an inch thick - except at its raised center, which is just under 3/4 of an inch high.I've included a US dollar bill in one of the photos to provide a good size and color reference. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! Kat
