(The Original Broadway production opened December 27th, 1927 at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City and ran for 575 performances. The Original French production opened March 15th, 1929 at the Theatre du Chatelet and ran for 115 performances.) ..... This masterwork by JEROME KERN and OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II remains one of the greatest of all musicals and possibly the greatest musical theatre score to date. The story starts in the 1880's on one of the many American riverboats that featured traveling shows.
