John Hay President Lincoln's Personal Secretary US Secretary State Signed Letter

Description: John Milton Hay [1838 1905] was an American statesman who began his political career as the personal secretary for President Abraham Lincoln. Hay graduated from Brown University and worked in a law office next to Abraham Lincoln's office in Springfield Illinois. Hay then joined Lincoln's presidential campaign and after the election was appointed as his personal secretary. After Lincoln's death Hay served in various diplomatic posts in Europe and was appointed as the 37th United States Secretary of State for President William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt from 1898 to 1905. Listed for auction is the autograph of John Milton Hay signed on a Department of State, Washington, D.C. autograph card. The card is dated Nov 10, 1903, and is boldly signed ''John Hay'' in black fountain pen. The card measures 5.00 x 3.00 inches, is in fine condition and will be accompanied with its original transmittal envelope. The autograph is authentic, signed on a desirable letterhead and will be a great addition to any Lincoln collection.
