Description: Maker and age: On the reverse of this unusual and utterly gorgeous Limoges olive tray are the green underglaze white ware mark number 12 (1894-1931) and red decorator's mark number 13 (1889-1931) of Haviland, one of the great Limoges firms at the turn of the last century. Together they confirm that the tray was produced and decorated by the Haviland factory between 1894 and 1931. Source: Third edition of the Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain by Mary Frank Gaston. The red retail mark of Geo V. Millar & Co - a major department store in Scranton, Pennsylvania, at the turn of the last century - also appears. Design: An intricate and finely painted display of pink flowers and green leaves decorates the inside and outside of this unusual serving dish. Haviland olive trays are rare, and in this unsual shape they are even rarer. A bread tray in this shape but in a different pattern appears on page 68 of Distinctive Limoges Porcelain by Keith and Thomas Waterbrook-Clyde, where it is identified as "a noteworthy boat shape". Size: The tray is 7 1/4 inches long, 3 5/8 inches wide at the center, 2 inches tall at the ends and 1 1/4 inches tall at the center. It weighs 4.4 ounces. Condition: It's in excellent condition for its age and fragile material with no nicks, chips, cracks, utensil marks, stains or repairs. There are a few dark marks on the bottom and light wear to the gold trim. Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description.
