Shells Pasta & Seafood was a beloved family-owned restaurant in Port Aransas, Texas, established in 1996 by Chef Heber Stone Sr., his wife Karen, and their son Heber Stone Jr. The restaurant quickly became a favorite among locals and tourists for its fresh seafood and Italian-inspired dishes. Chef Stone Sr., who had a distinguished culinary career in Austin, Hawaii, California, and Canada’s west coast, brought his passion for the ocean and fine dining to the Gulf Coast. After 27 years of service, Shells Pasta & Seafood closed its doors on April 9, 2023. Karen Stone cited her retirement at age 70 and challenges such as staffing shortages and the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in 2017 as factors leading to the decision. The restaurant was renowned for its cozy atmosphere and signature dishes like coriander-and-chili-crusted Ahi tuna tacos, seared Mahi Mahi, and homemade desserts, including a popular Key lime pie. Its commitment to fresh, flavorful cuisine and exceptional service left a lasting impression on the Port Aransas community. Chef Heber Stone IV passed away on June 22, 2014, at the age of 73. He was remembered for his contributions to the culinary scene and his dedication to Shells Pasta & Seafood. While Shells Pasta & Seafood is no longer operational, its legacy continues to be cherished by those who experienced its unique and delightful dining offerings.
