Description: Nemadji Pottery in Moose Lake Minnesota was founded in 1920 and made bricks and tiles. From 1929 to 1972 numerous vases and pots were made. Using colored clay, various random swirl patterns were created. Most pieces were unglazed, although some were coated with shellac. Near the Nemadji River - Nemadji meaning "left-handed" in Ojibway - these were very popular items in souvenir shops, giving the impression that they were made by local Indians/Native Americans. The early pieces even had a silhouette image of an Indian and "Indian Pottery" included in their ink-stamp mark. This vase is finished with red and black in the typical swirl pattern used on Nemadji pieces. It is about 5 inches tall and 4-1/4 inches in diameter at the widest part. The bottom rim is about 2-1/4 inches in diameter and the top rim is about 2-1/2 inches in diameter. The bottom is ink-stamped "Nemadji U.S.A. Pottery". It is in good vintage condition - no chips, hairlines, or crazing. Ships USPS.
