When it came into my collection the scabbard was longer and leather covered with mold and rot. The scabbard was shortened to remove the damage and prevent it from spreading. Some research about the extra long leather covered scabbard indicates that it may have been lengthened to meet military requirements. That will remain a mystery but seems a likely explanation. It's a simple, beautiful example of sword making. The wood pin that holds the handle on is new; I replaced the missing pin. Sometimes I travel, and there may be a short delay in shipping.
