NOS 50s 60s Chevrolet 13"OK Used Car Bowtie Porcelain Signs Neon Corvette Impala

Description: This listing is for the real thing rather than reproductions that may be available somewhere. I can ship this pair of rare signs anywhere outside of the USA and Canada most economically using Priority Mail International from the United States Postal Service. This pair of rare and very desirable small Chevrolet bowtie porcelain signs measure 13" wide by 4-3/8" tall. These gems were part of a pole-mounted Chevrolet used car porcelain sign like the one shown in the last photo. The sign shown in that last photo is NOT part of this listing. That photo is for reference only so you will know where this pair of signs were originally used. The sign I bought was located in a small room in the basement where the furnace was located. I remember finding this pair of small bowtie signs wrapped in newspaper inside the bottom of that sign. I unwrapped them and displayed them in an open showcase in the living room of my house for many years. I am sorry I did not retain the newspaper they were wrapped in. I would like to know the date of the newspaper packing material. I later sold the sign to a collector but forgot to include these small bowties. Just because these signs were never screwed to the bottom of the large sign as they were intended to be, that does not mean that they are in perfect condition. I owned several and looked at hundreds of porcelain signs and am aware that they often have very minor manufacturing flaws. These signs are no exception to that fact. I would rate the upper sign shown in the first 3 photos of this listing as being about a 9.8 on a scale of 10. That sign is also shown in more detail in the 4th, 5th, and 6th photos of this listing. Other than a tiny 1/16" or so diameter black spot above the letter "E" and some black edges showing, it has no significant issues that I can find. I would rate the lower sign shown in the next 3 photos of this listing as being about a 9.0 on a scale of 10. That lower sign is also shown in more detail in the 7th, 8th, and 9th photos of this listing. As you can see in the 8th photo of this listing, I pointed to a round black spot with a pen. That spot is about 1/8" in diameter and is located about 3/8" above the letter "V". That spot protrudes only about .010" (about the thickness of 3 human hairs) above the surface of the sign. This tiny defect does not appreciably detract from the appeal of this sign but I have to mention it anyway. This sign also has some black edge material showing on some of the edges. Both of these signs are slightly convex in shape. If one lays both of them on a flat table, they are somewhat humped up in the middle. The sign with the tiny black dot defect rises about 3/16" above the table at the center. The other sign without the tiny black dot defect is somewhat more concave and rises about 5/16" above the table at the center. I don't think these are necessarily flaws but are more a result of heating the sheet steel material and releasing stresses in it when curing the porcelain material. Now I have to come up with a fair price for both myself and the new owner of this very unusual pair of signs. If you are really into collecting signs, you will most likely be very familiar with Millers Auction Company located in Hixton Wisconsin. On January 5, 2024 they had an auction of the Ed Hinchman Advertising Collection. The sign in the last photo of this listing sold for $13,500 plus a 15% buyer's premium for a total of $15,525.00. The next to the last photo on this listing shows a small Chevrolet porcelain bowtie sign like the pair I have listed here. It has a considerable amount of damage and yet sold for $2,000 plus a 15% buyer's premium for a total of $2,300. I am no ace sign collector but I know that condition means everything when it comes to value. I suspect that if that badly chipped sign sold for $2,300, then each of these NOS signs is worth twice as much, or $4,600 each or $9,200 for the pair. In the world of license plate collectors, a matching pair of plates is worth considerably more than two single plates. Therefore, if one applies the same logic here, this pair of signs should be worth at least $10,000 or possibly even more. There is no set price for collectible items like this. I will be happy to sell them for that amount even though eBay will collect about $1,500 from me for their final value and PayPal fees if these sell here. However, I most likely would never have found a serious sign buyer without listing them here for the world to see. I will wrap these in white plastic foam, sandwich them between 2 pieces of plywood, and then double-box them to protect them for shipping. Insurance and which carrier to use is up to the new owner. I am heading to Albert Lea Minnesota soon and may be able to deliver them anywhere along my route. I have a lot of friends in various hobbies who travel throughout the USA and Canada that may be able to safely and economically deliver these depending on where you live and how soon you want them. I suspect that most of these tiny add-on signs were lost somewhere along the way rather than preserved with the sign they were once part of. This may be your best or last opportunity to acquire a pair of truly exceptional signs like these. You might do well to give some very serious thought to hitting the "Buy It Now" button before some other very serious sign collector does so. I am now 71 years of age and decided to thin my extensive collection of collectible cars, trucks, tractors, toys, pedal vehicles, signs, sales literature, and other items I found to be interesting sometime in the last 50 years or so. There is a very nice original cardboard engine oil color sign from WW II. I probably have more interesting signs to list here too but can't think of them right now.
