Description: 45cm by 42cm Original artwork / cartoon by JBG Thomas ( see below ) who has signed and dated the piece 11th November 1942 to the lower right hand corner and which features the Servicemen and Crew etc of HMS Elgin. This would have taken many hours to complete and it is in ink and grey etc watercolour paint, as shown the various crew members are identified and no doubt their comments etc related to that individuals personality in real life. Bryn Thomas Wartime Navy service started with Destroyer duty in E-Boat Alley and he rose to Lieutenant RNVR in Fleet Minesweepers. HMS Elgin was damaged by a Mine in 1944 and sold for scrap in 1945. The item is folded and there is some additional creasing no doubt from being carried around etc back in the 1940's, there is an odd small mark and some wear to the outer edges but generally the main area is in good condition. Would make a great addition to any Minesweeper / Royal Navy collection especially if held by a family member of someone featured etc. This item was among items belonging to Welsh Rugby Journalist J B G ' Bryn ' Thomas who is best known for his time with the Western Mail newspaper. Much of his collection was sold by Auction House Phillips in the late 1990's and this piece would seem to be from one of the lots sold then. OVERSEAS BUYERS...
