Original Japanese HIROSHI YOSHIDA Woodblock Print CHERRY TREE Jizuri Seal 1935

Description: An original Japanese Showa period oban tate-e Hiroshi Yoshida (1876-1950) woodblock print 'The Cherry Tree in Kawagoe', early edition, Jizuri sealed, published by the artist in 1935. Hiroshi Yoshida is credited with reviving the Japanese woodblock genre under the influence of the publisher S. Watanabe in the 1920s. Today, along with Hasui, Yoshida is regarded as one of the greatest artists of the Shin-hanga art movement. This wonderful original early state oban tate-e 1935 woodblock by Yoshida shows a wonderful scene of a people under a cherry tree with so many blossoms the branches are being held up with stilts. The woodblock is signed and sealed Yoshida inside the image, dated 1935 and Jizuri sealed in the left margin and pencil titled 'The cherry tree in Kawagoe' along with pencil signed 'Hiroshi Yoshida' under the image. The woodblock comes with some information from Asian Fine Arts, Minneapolis (operated from 1981-1996), the owner of which, Frederick 'Fred' Wells, was a celebrated Japanese woodblock collector whose collection was posthumously exhibited in 2016 at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts: 'Seven Masters: 20th century Japanese woodblock prints from the Wells collection'. The sheet measures approximately 16 1/8 x 10 5/8 inches. The woodblock is in great condition with nice colors. There are two pin prick holes to the right margin and tiny remnants of tape pieces to the reverse. Please check all 24 pictures, they form part of the condition report. Terms of Sale TERMS OF SALE & RETURNS We make great efforts to honestly and accurately describe each item we list. We back this up with many photographs, all with a close-up zoom option for detailed inspection. Due to the majority of our items being antique/vintage and often unique it can be difficult to determine age and as such all our items are sold 'as is'. However, if we are not certain about the age of an item we will either not mention an age or say the item is being sold as a later or modern piece and then leave it up to more experienced buyers to determine the exact age. Items are not returnable if it was not of the age/value you were hoping it to be with no exceptions. If we place a date on an item we guarantee it to be of that period or earlier. If you require further pictures or more information about an item, please let us know prior to bidding or purchase. Items cannot be returned for any condition issues either shown in the pictures or mentioned in the listing. As many items we sell are one hundred years or older we will not accept returns for wear consistent with the item's age. Any item mentioned as sold 'as is' in the listing will not be eligible for any form of return or refund. If it is determined an item is eligible for a return, the item must be shipped back within 48 hours, insured and tracked. A restocking fee may apply. We are very easy to work with and welcome any and many questions during our listings, so please let us know if you have one! Thanks again for looking!
