Description: Paul Meredith "The Hunter's Moon" Original Signed and Titled Colour Mezzotint Etching The Hunter's Moon follows the Harvest Moon close to the autumn l equinox. At the time of writing this there is an Super Hanting Moon expected in mid October 2924. I believe it was given this name as the dates coincided with the start of the hunting season. The background and biography of Meredith I have yet to find, but he was a man obviously obsessed nay moons and moonlight and his choice of colour mezzotint allowed him to achieve these deep rich vibrant blues you see in these moonlight conditions. Reminiscent of Fredrick Marriott's alpine colour mezzotints or even James Alphege Brrewer's blue sky night scenery. The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria Australia hold an impression of a mezzotint by Meredith titled " The Harvest Moon" image and details of which may be viewed online. There are auction records of other similar mezzotints by the artist - One titled Studland Bay ( Dorset) again under a moon and intense blue sky. I wonder if the lack of easily available biography here and the fact that a big important gallery in Australia holds one of his works, may translate to the fact that the artist is in fact Australian?? Image: 13cm x 21cm. Plate: 15cm x 22.5cm. Sheet: 22.5cm x 30cm. The mezzotint is loose. not mounted, not framed. Printed on a pale white wove card of thin card like thickness. Signed in pencil right hand corner within the plate and titled in pencil il on the left. The condition is very good with no foxing, tears or damage. Couple of light creases but only at top corners of the sheet, so overall in great condition. My photos are in natural daylight. I do not digitally enhance images.
