Last night, August 17, we saw a dramatic new all time high achieved for an example of this card. The PSA 8 (picture IS sho2n in this ad) sold for WELL over $220,000!!! That trampled what was previously the record. Of course, that card was NOT owned by Pel, and that card was NOT signed by Pel during the last few weeks of his life. And in my humble opinion, that card does not even look as clean and high-grade as THIS card. That's with the autograph not playing any factor. ************ This is probably about a special as a Pel rookie could possibly get; and this may be YOUR only chance to make the card your own. The stories and well revered hero is Brazil's start of their winning an unprecedented three World Cups started, effectively, when a very young Pel saw for the first time in his life, his father crying. That was when the Brazil team lost the 1950 World Cup. A very young Pel fortuitously promised his father that he'd WIN the cup for Brazil. Regularly practicing futebol with a ball that hits norther sewed from old scraps of clothing. Fast forward to a17 year old Pel LEADING the Brazilian team to VICTORY in the 1958 World Cup in Sweden. Brazil promptly declared young pele a national hero!! Then, four years later, Brazil would AGAIN win the World Cup. And in 1970 Pel would yet again lead Brazil to their unprecedented World Cup victory!! Back to the card being offered here...... Firstly, please be aware that prior to PSA coming to Brazil to witness Pel signing all of HIS personal collection , PSA had never had his name listed on three PSA holder's labels. They had erroneously lasted the player as "Pele" The man's name was " Pel " And that accent mark over the second "e" in his name was quite important to him. The nickname Pel was originally used by his childhood friends as an insult. In Portuguese, it means "skin" Pel decided to OWN IT, for what turned out to quite literally become his giving the word "Pel' a new meaning in Portuguese, both figuratively and LITERALLY!! In fact, in Portuguese language dictionaries, the word "Pel" is now listed. Pel is listed as meaning EXCEPTIONAL In 1958, a company produced an album with 24 perforated cards inside of the album. The album was quite popular in Brazil and was treasured by many, including PEL, HIMSELF. Flash forward to the end of 2022. I had the incredible honor of being invited to come to Pel's waterfront mansion in Brazil. He requested that I come as he needed someone with enough knowledge to help sort and categorize his vast collection of predominantly cars that he was featured in, but also cards of teammates and other futebol legends While it's ALL verifiable through PSA's population reports, I believe Pel owned none or ten examples of this prestigious card. Of all of the ones that he used to own, THIS CARD was his SINGLE finest (highest numerical grade) example that he owned. PSA/DNA sent a pair of their employees who were physically present to witness Pel actually signing all of his OWN CARDS. This signing occurred in October and November of 2022. Pel had hoped to finish out all in October. He was physically unable to. We all came back to his home in November with the hope of finishing this project to benefit the Pel Foundation, which meant the world to Pel. We were again unable to finish. Pel signed approximately 1,000 items of what was planned to have been 1,283, one for every goal he scored in his storied career. We all planned to come back in December 2022 to finish. Unfortunately, by early December, Pel was again back in the hospital for what so sadly turned out to be the end. This singular card WAS PEL'S PERSONAL FINEST EXAMPLE of his all-important Aquarela ROOKIE card. And it wasn't just Pel's finest example of the card. Over the years, Pel had sighed a few other examples of the Aquarela card. But NO examples that he ever signed were graded this high. This will WITH 100% CERTAINTY always be THE SINGLE FINEST Pel owned and signed Aquarela. And with 99% certainty, this will forever be the finest example of this historic card that Pel ever signed.
