Description: This rare black 12” Scootles Composition Cameo Doll by Rose O'Neill is a beautiful addition to any doll collection. There were not very many black dolls being produced in the 20s and 30s, which makes this doll an exceptional piece of American history. The Black Scootles doll by Rose O'Neill is rare due to its limited production, unique racial representation, fragile composition material, and quality from the Cameo Doll Company. Rose O'Neill was a prominent American illustrator and creator of the famous Kewpie dolls, which were incredibly popular in the early 20th century. Her work with dolls was innovative, and her designs were known for their endearing, chubby faces and whimsical expressions. The Scootles character, introduced by O'Neill, was a less common design than the Kewpie, featuring a distinct, mischievous face with exaggerated round cheeks, a rounded nose, and a quirky expression. Scootles was originally intended to represent a toddler character, with a lovable and somewhat impish look. This doll has wavy brown hair and brown eyes. This doll is in need of some loving restoration. Please note the crazing and cracking from age as seen in the pictures. It does need to be restrung but still a wonderful piece of history! Please ask any questions before purchasing. From a non-smoking home. I ship within 24 to 48 hours of payment. Thanks for looking!
