Description: This is a listing for a rare custom Glenn Davis Signed Autographed Army Black Knights Full Size Helmet, Game Used, 3x All-American, Maxwell Award, 1946 Heisman, 3x National Champion, NFL Pro Bowl, NFL Champ, CHOF, Dec'd 2005, COA. This is a custom game used (not College) helmet that was repainted and customized prior to signing in order to replicate the look of the helmet Glenn actually wore. While it does show some slight wear, it is in very good condition. However, it does retain the feel that one would expect from a game used helmet. It is also gives the helmet a much more "real" and authentic feel. (Please examine the photos closely.) The helmet has a strong, clear signature from Glenn in black sharpie, which he has signed boldly and clearly at a Tristar Productions Show in Houston, Texas in 2000. In the photos we have included copies of the local newspaper advertisements promoting the Tristar show and Glenn's appearance. Glenn also inscribed on the helmet "'46 Heisman." The helmet comes with our certificate of authenticity from Sportsfanland verifying the signature and we guarantee that it will pass JSA or PSA/DNA authentication or we will refund the sales price. We will also including a 1998 Kenner Heisman Trophy Starting Lineup figure of Glenn. The helmet and figure will be shipped to you by USPS Ground Advantage within the continental USA only and we will provide you with tracking information. Glenn Davis was an outstanding football running back who played for the Army Black Knights from 1943 to 1946, being a 3-time All-American, winning three National Titles and being awarded the 1946 Heisman Trophy and Maxwell Award. Glenn was an outstanding all-around player, also playing in the defensive backfield. He teamed with fellow All-American and 1945 Heisman Trophy winner, Doc Blanchard. Glenn was an halfback who became known at "Mr. Outside," and Blanchard was a fullback known as "Mr. Inside." Together, along with an outstanding quarterback in Arnold Tucker, Army was an unstoppable force for three seasons (1944-1946.) They were coached by the College Hall of Fame Head Coach, Earl "Red" Blaik. Back at that time, college football dominated the sports scene to much higher degree than it does today. As a result, Glenn was not only one of the best known football players of the time, he was one of the best knpwn athletes of any kind in the 1940's. After Glenn completed three years of service in the Army, he joined the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL in 1950. In his first season he was named to the Pro Bowl and helped lead the Rams to the NFL Championship Game (where they lost.) However, the following year, Glenn and the Rams did win the NFL Championship. Due to serious knee injuries, Glenn only played two seasons in the NFL. On a personal note, Glenn was also known for having dated film actress Elizabeth Taylor in 1948 and he was married to film actress Terry Moore for several years. Glenn and Doc Blanchard also had an opportunity to play themselves in the Hollywood movie "The Spirit of West Point," in 1947. Glenn was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1961. Sadly, he passed in 2005 at the age of 80. Glenn was a larger than life figure who was not only a great athlete, but also a big public figure. His helmet was a special and prominent part of our collection for more than twenty years and it is now looking for a new home. Glenn was a true college football legend and a Full Size helmet signed by him is very rare. Get it while you can. If you have any questions, please let us know.
