Description: This vintage Japanese wood creative kokeshi doll measures 8.25" high and 9.5" in circumference around her head. She was designed by well-known kokeshi doll artist - Genji Yamada - who has won several top awards in Japan for his kokeshi doll creations, including one for this doll. Her name is "Machiharu" which roughly translates to "Waiting For Spring". Her pretty, vertically ribbed Haori coat is decorated with large red and white plum blossom flowers and buds. You can see just the top of her kimono (below her chin) decorated with the same flowers, and she's also wearing a cute red and white hair bow. She has a shy face with closed eyes, framed by her hair. And the slight tilt of her head is endearing. The artist signed the bottom of the doll in black ink. Please see below for flaws. This kokeshi doll is in fair to good vintage condition - with worn/missing varnish, age spots, and natural but uneven aging/shading/darkening of the wood - and she would make a great addition to your growing collection. White areas are camera glare. Please remember that this is a vintage doll that may have minor imperfections, such as dust/dirt/dings/scratches/scuffs/age spots. And please note the size of the doll as the pictures may make it look larger than it actually is.
