Description: Soviet Medal for Irreproachable Service in MOOP of Georgia, 1st class (for 20 years of service), 1962-68 issue. The medallion measures 32.0 mm wide and weighs 15.9 grams not including the connecting link and suspension. The medal is in VERY GOOD condition. The enamel is essentially perfect having just a minor internal imperfection on the upper left arm of the star resulting in slightly darker area – this may well be a manufacturing flaw, and is not very detractive at any rate. The silver finish is completely intact and shows very attractive toning. The ribbon is very clean. The connecting link between the medal and suspension is original and hasn’t been cut. MOOP stands for Ministry of Protecting the Public Order, a temporary substitute for MVD during the 60s. This particular variation of the MOOP medal was issued by the Georgina MOOP. Because population of the Soviet republic of Georgia was relatively small compared with other, larger republics, not very many medals were issued. In 1968, the law enforcement ministry of the Soviet Union re-acquired its old name MVD, and the MOOP medals were not issued thereafter.
