Lava lamps are also often used in children's rooms as night lights as they provide a little light, without being a nuisance and making the children unable to sleep, but they still create a bit of security and coziness when they are switched on. What we refer to here as "lava" is in reality a wax which, when it gets hot, begins to melt quietly, and the interaction with the water that is also inside the bottle in the lava lamps means that they stand and bubble with bubbling lava both and and fall down inside the bottle. It's super nice to look at.
