Description: Up for sale is a special 100th Anniversary of the jointly-produced newspaper, dated April 18, 2006. The paper has been folded in quarters and has a few minor creases on the edges. It includes the complete four page paper as well as a pull-out section entitled, “Then and Now”. Description: Due to the destruction of the presses in San Francisco, these three separate and competing newspapers combined under one masthead for this issue, printing the paper of this date across the bay on the presses of the Oakland Tribune. This issue is noteworthy in containing no advertisements but rather is replete in its four pages with reports on the earthquake and fire. Plus banner headlines on pages 1, 2, 3, and 4 which was almost never done at that time, and which include on the front page: "EARTHQUAKE AND FIRE: SAN FRANCISCO IN RUINS" and on inside pages: "At Least 500 Are Dead" "Entire City of San Francisco In Danger of Being Annihilated" "Panic-Stricken People Flee" "Loss Is $200,000" along with many, many large-type one column headlines. Also worth noting is the missing dateline at the top of page 3 as this page is actually the same as the Oakland Tribune edition of April 18--they used it over again for this combined San Francisco issue. I once read that since normal distribution of the newspaper was severely disrupted, stacks of this issue were simply set out on the streets for passers-by to take.Condition: My aim is to grade conservatively. Listed below are grades and their corresponding meaning that I use in the item description and/or title: New: An item that has never been used: sealed or unsealed with label/tag. An item that shows no signs of ever being used. NOS (New Old Stock): The item doesn’t show wear in areas which normally show wear when used but does show very minor wear from storage. Like-new: The item looks brand-new but on closer examination there may be one or two very minor marks that show that the item has been used. Excellent: Very minor wear which is not distracting. It shows signs that it was used once or twice. No writing/marking/stains are present. Very good: The wear that is evident shows that it was used occasionally and has been very well taken care of. Good: A well-used item that may have considerable cosmetic wear and/or writing, marking, or stains but which the quality of its use does not suffer. Fair: Evidence of abuse to the point where I feel that the quality of its use probably suffers slightly but not to the point of it being noticeable. It may show signs of being repaired in the past. I use “green” packaging either reused or purchased second-hand and right-sizing the item to the box.
