Description: Offered here is a wonderful vintage first edition children's book; THE CAT IN THE HAT, by DR. SEUSS, publisher New York: Random House, (1957). First edition, third variant issue. See Younger and Hirsch 7, note 3. This copy in glazed boards with dust jacket priced 195/195 and without the Beginner Books listed as a series. A small bit of wear at the corners and edges of the boards and especially at the spine head and heel, else nice and bright in a dust jacket that has minor rubbing at the extremities more minor rubbing with added minor stressing at spine head and heel and slightly at the top edge - foxing or stain spots inside DJ near the spine - as seen which come through to the front, some soiling on the back of the DJ. This is a three signature binding. The endpages are illustrated on blue - the pages are brilliant white with brilliant bold colors.By enhancing everyday situations with irresistible imaginary characters and telling the tales with cleverly rhymed, easily recognizable words, Seuss gave control of learning to read back to children, while providing wit, charm, comic verse, and a surprise on every page. The Cat in the Hat was so successful that Random House, publisher of all the Dr. Seuss books since 1937, created a special division, Beginner Books, with the Cat in the Hat as the logo and Dr. Seuss as president of the division" (Dr. Seuss from Then to Now, 45).
