Issued 1856, Washington by U.S. Gov. for the official U.S. Government Naval Expedition during 1852-4. Lithographed New York by Sarony & Co. Excellent mid-19th century tinted color lithographed woodblock print lot depicting traditional Japanese artwork seen during Perry's Japan Expedition. Produced in America by Sinclair in a manner which closely resembles original Japanese woodblock printing. Among the first American published views of this artistic style. Still largely under valued and appreciated, this view is an important printed historical visual artifact issued during the expansion of United States in the middle of the 19th century. Paper and image remains clean and well preserved with a fine patina and visual appeal. Note any small age spotting or toning. A great image. Please study pics, they capture how the item survives.
